October, 2, 2008Harris Overpass Update
Thanks for your interest in the Harris Overpass project. The construction contract has been awarded to Cramer & Associates of Des Moines, Iowa. Cramer & Associates and their sub-contractors are diligently working on the bridge reconstruction.
This page will give you a snapshot at what is occurring and what is expected to occur with the project during construction. Please check back in a few weeks. We will update this website throughout construction.
The Contractor has been working on final details to get the bridge ready to be opened. All pavement is in place and sidewalk construction is continuing. Lighting is being installed and wired, concrete forms are being removed, concrete is being painted, and fencing is being erected. The bridge deck will be sealed the week of October 6 and pavement markings will be placed after the bridge deck is sealed.
On October 10 mid-morning we are scheduled to open the bridge to one-way traffic in each direction. The bridge will be open to pedestrians as well on October 10. More information will be released next week. Please keep in mind there is still work that will need to be complete even though traffic will be able to travel on the bridge. Items that will be completed after October 10 include the remainder of the bridge painting and decorative fence installation. Temporary fence will be erected on the bridge in order to allow traffic to flow and protect the bicyclists and pedestrians. Other minor work may occur farther west of the bridge to install fiberoptic lines, a dynamic message board and storm sewer work clean-up along 2nd Street south of "O" Street.
Thanks again for your interest in the Harris Overpass project.
